I toyed with being lots of different things when I was younger. I considered being a teacher for a long time or even a journalist as I liked writing.

But when I was 10 my Dad got sick with cancer. My parents thought I was too young to understand what was going on so I ended up teaching myself about what all these words like “tumour” and “chemotherapy” meant using encyclopaedias (we didn’t have wikipedia in 2000!). Working all this out got me interested in Biology and I guess the interest stuck throughout school too.
