That is very hard to answer, there are many interesting parts of the brain and exciting research going on in all of them.
What I find most important, and interesting, is trying to understand the parts of the brain involved in movement. If you think about it, the only way that we interact with our environment is using movement. One of my favourite scientists Charles Sherrington said “To move things is all that mankind can do whether it be the whisper of a syllable or the felling of a forest”. It is also evolutionarily very important since movement underlies all behaviour in us complex mammals or in a very simple vertebrate like a lamprey. The area of the brain that I study is called the basal ganglia and it is important in selecting the right movement at the right time – actually a very complicated process. I hope that answers your question.
