I think the most interesting part of the body is the eye.

The eye is so interesting as I feel it is such a well put together example of muscle movement, genetics and biochemistry and these all come together so brilliantly to let us see. Muscles control the amount of light the eye lets in with it’s lens and iris. Sophisticated biochemistry and neuroscience pathways take all the information in to the brain and allow us to see things. Tiny mutations in our genes can make us colour blind or even cause us to inherit blindness! It’s all really amazing!

From an immunology point of view the eye is also unique as it is called an immune privilege site. This means the body restricts the immune systems access to the eye. This is why trauma to the eye can be so dangerous as if parts of the eye are exposed to the immune system for the first time, the immune system can think it is a foreign object and start an immune response against the eye. This is quite difficult and complicated to treat
