Using physics to study the human body is a relatively new idea. The human body is so complicated that it is hard to study the physics beghind it without powerful computers (that we have only had for 10-20 years).

I love physics and have always been very curious about how the human body works, so it made sense to combine the two in this exciting new research area!

I want to be able to help people and studying diseases is one way of doing that which has the potential to help many people.

I’m fascinated by how complex and chaotic the body is on a molecular level – all the hundreds of thousands of molecules that each cell has and how they interact to make something that is greater than the sum of its parts. I think it’s really beautiful. I could spend my whole life studying the body and it’s diseases and only even know a tiny bit of what there is to know.

I really liked the idea that research I could do would help people in some way.

One great benefit from my research is that it helps with vaccine design. Using my research we can make better and safer vaccines, or even harness the immune system to make vaccines to more complex diseases like cancer.
