I work in a hospital, in an area that actually belongs to the University I work for. It overlooks the Big Ben (which is nice) and I have a big desk and a computer from which I can run my experiments and all their analysis. There are other people around who use similar physics knowledge and computer programmes to mine to solve other problems and it’s quite a social place!

I work in the Medical Research Council Brain Network Dynamics Unit – which is part of the University of Oxford. It is in central Oxford near the other science departments. During the day I spend my time going between the lab, the microscopes and my desk. I like it because I move around a lot during the day and I don’t get bored.

I work in the Life Sciences and Environment research labs at Lancaster University. I’m part of the Biological and Life Sciences department. Other researchers in my department work on different diseases like Parkinson’s and Cancer.

I have a shared office across from the labs which I use to write up my notes, read research papers and send emails. We have a special room which we use for growing cells and performing infections. We also have incubators in there to house the cells while we grow them. We’re based on the university campus so there are students and lecture theatres below my lab. It’s quite nice, it means that there is a lot going on so if I get bored or it’s a tough day it’s easy to step out and grab an ice cream or a coffee.

I work in the Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit within the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine……I have the best desk ever….It’s in a brand new glass building, right in the corner so I’m surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass and I can see Edinburgh Castle from my desk!
